The Leninsky District Court of Penza sentenced Irina Gen, a former teacher at the Olympic Reserve School, to five years in prison. She was found guilty of disseminating deliberately false information about the use of the armed forces of the Russian Federation using her official position for reasons of political hatred (clauses “a” and “e” of part 2 of article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
How reported in the district court, according to the verdict, Ms. Gen, “knowingly that she, as a teacher, was prohibited from using educational activities for political agitation” and “experiencing a strong dislike for the President of the Russian Federation”, provided the students with unreliable information about the military conflict in Ukraine.
In March of this year, Irina Gen, when asked by the students whether they would go abroad for competitions, saidthat this will not happen because of the special operation carried out by the Russian army on the territory of Ukraine. In particular, she noted that Russia allegedly does not behave in a “civilized way”, dissent in it is “considered a crime of thought”.
Athletes recorded a conversation with a teacher on a dictaphone and handed it over to law enforcement agencies. The criminal case was initiated on March 30.
The Ministry of Justice explained to investigators and judges what is the difference between opinions and statements about the special operation – in the material “Kommersant” “Here’s for the arguments, but for the facts”.
