Patriarch Kirill: the desire to split historical Rus’ is dictated by anti-Christian motives

Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’ Kirill spoke with an appeal dedicated to the Day of National Unity. In it, he announced spiritual aggression against Russia. According to him, those who are guided by anti-Christian motives are trying to split historical Rus’, and also want to “erode the image of God from a person, enslave people to the power of sin and vice, make them exclusively subjects of the global market and consumers of material goods.”

In this regard, the patriarch mentioned the conflict in Ukraine. According to him, the situation in this country confirms attempts to split the Orthodox. “And we grieve, pray and hope that the Lord will incline His mercy to the people of Ukraine, and therefore to all historical Rus’,”— declared Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC).

Cultural and spiritual aggression against Russia is by no means new, the patriarch recalled and called for the preservation of the unity of faith of all East Slavic peoples. This should be done in spite of the forces seeking to sow discord, said the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church. “We must testify with one mouth and one heart not only about the commonality of culture, spiritual tradition, historical destiny, but also about the unity of faith of all East Slavic peoples,” said Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’.

Today, November 4, Russia celebrates National Unity Day. With this holiday fellow citizens congratulated President Vladimir Putin, mentioning the feat of the people who were able to restore legitimate power and a unified statehood.
