Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan accused Baku of trying to drag his country into full-scale military action. He also stated that the situation around Karabakh was not unexpected. The leader of Armenia announced this live on the social network Facebook (owned by Meta – recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation) after a meeting of the Security Council of the republic.

According to Pashinyan, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces began shelling the entire territory of Nagorno-Karabakh with rockets and artillery, after which they tried to break through the contact line and take control of populated areas. At the same time, Armenia does not intend to start military operations with Azerbaijan because of the situation in Karabakh, Pashinyan said.

The Prime Minister of Armenia claims that Yerevan did not receive information from Russia about Azerbaijan’s intention to begin military operations in Nagorno-Karabakh.

“We saw the tension of the situation. And now we see that Azerbaijan has launched a ground operation to ethnically cleanse the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh. We believe that first of all, Russian peacekeeping forces must take action. Secondly, we expect measures from the UN Security Council,” quotes Pashinyan “Interfax”.

On September 19, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense announced the start of “anti-terrorism measures” in Nagorno-Karabakh to “restorate the constitutional order.”

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia condemned Baku’s actions and called them “large-scale aggression.” They stated that the armed forces of the republic and military equipment are not stationed in Nagorno-Karabakh. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan convened meeting of the Security Council of the republic to discuss the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova statedthat Azerbaijan informed Russia about the “anti-terrorist operation” in Nagorno-Karabakh a few minutes before the start of hostilities.
