Pashinyan: Aliyev did not confirm his participation in the meeting in Brussels

The meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at the end of October in Brussels will not take place – Aliyev has not confirmed his participation in the negotiations. Pashinyan announced this.
“The fact is that the meeting will not take place in October. I believe the reason is that the President of Azerbaijan did not confirm his participation in the meeting,” he said, speaking in the Armenian parliament (quote according to TASS).
He added that Yerevan is now trying to “clarify some working issues in order to decide on further steps.” Pashinyan confirmed the readiness of the Armenian side for the meeting.
On the afternoon of October 25, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Toivo Klaar announced that the meeting would not take place in Brussels. He cited lack of time as the reason.
October 6, President of the European Council Charles Michel announced meeting between Pashinyan and Aliyev at the end of October in Brussels. Prior to this, Aliyev refused to participate in a five-party meeting with Pashinyan and representatives of France, Germany and the EU, which was supposed to take place on October 5 in Granada. He explained his decision by refusing to allow Turkish representatives into the negotiations.
On September 19, Azerbaijan announced the start of “anti-terrorist measures” necessary for the “restoration of the constitutional order” in Nagorno-Karabakh. The next day, Karabakh authorities announced the conclusion of agreements on a complete ceasefire. On September 28, the President of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) Samvel Shahramanyan signed a decree ending its existence from January 1, 2024.
