Economist: part of the MiG-29 fighters transferred to Ukraine are being dismantled for spare parts
Poland and Slovakia have recently handed over MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine, however, many of them are “out of flight condition”. For this reason, they did not find anything better in Kyiv than to disassemble them into spare parts, reports the Economist magazine.
Both countries have handed over about eight MiG-29s in recent weeks. “The part is used as a source of spare parts,” the material says.
Yuriy Ignat, adviser to the Ukrainian air force command, noted that the country needed F-16s. The material indicates that experienced Ukrainian military pilots (privately) are skeptical about the attempts of the authorities to get these particular fighters.
In their desire to obtain the desired flight technology, the Kyiv authorities are also taking creative measures. On a recent trip to North America, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal used a plane with emojis pleading for the supply of fighter jets painted directly on board.
