Parliament of Kyrgyzstan ratifies agreement on disputed sections of border

The Parliament of Kyrgyzstan has ratified an agreement with Uzbekistan on the last disputed sections of the common border, reported on the website of the legislature of the republic.
“Draft laws have been adopted on the ratification of the Treaty between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Uzbekistan on certain sections of the Kyrgyz-Uzbek state border and the agreement on the joint management of water resources of the Andijan reservoir,” the report says.
How notes TASS, the parties were able to launch the process of demarcation and delimitation of a common border with a length of 1300 km only in 2017, at the beginning of this year, 230 km remained to be agreed upon. In October, the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan approved a draft agreement on the delimitation and demarcation of the border with Uzbekistan, according to which the land under the Andijan reservoir with an area of 4,485 hectares goes to Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan receives 19,699 hectares. In early November, the foreign ministers of the republics signed this is an agreement.
Then the foreign ministers emphasized the positive impact of the legal clarification of the border on the relations between the two countries. In addition, representatives of the two republics agreed to expand the volume of mutual trade and discussed the implementation of major joint infrastructure and energy projects, including the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway.
