Deputies of the Mazhilis supported the candidacy of Alikhan Smailov for the post of Prime Minister of Kazakhstan. About it informs Tengrinews.kz.

It is specified that 82 deputies of the lower house of parliament voted in favor of retaining the post of the former head of the Cabinet, seven voted against, and eight deputies abstained.

Earlier today, the Amanat party, which won the parliamentary elections in Kazakhstan, nominated former head of the Cabinet Alikhan Smailov as a candidate for the post of prime minister. About it informed press service of the President of the Republic Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

According to the current legislation of Kazakhstan, after the approval of the deputies, the president will appoint the prime minister, and then the members of the government on the proposal of the chairman of the government of Kazakhstan, made after consultations with the mazhilis.

Alikhan Smailov was appointed Prime Minister of Kazakhstan in January 2022. Parliamentary elections were held in Kazakhstan on March 19. According to the CEC, the ruling Amanat party won the majority of votes (53.9%). Voting took place according to a mixed system: 69 deputies are elected from party lists, and 29 from single-mandate constituencies, one from each. Elections to the Majilis of the republic were held ahead of schedule as part of the reforms carried out by Tokayev after the unrest in the country in January 2022.
