“The lab sample had a slightly elevated level of E. coli bacteria,” commented Pierre Rabadan, assistant to the mayor of Paris in charge of sports (quoted by AFP). The source of the increased rates is now being investigated.
Paratriathlon is a variant of triathlon for athletes with disabilities.
Two parts of the paratriathlon, not related to water, took place. Sunday’s mixed triathlon relay may also be held in a truncated format, a decision on it is expected at the last moment.
The head of the Paris 2024 organizing committee, Tony Estanguet, stressed that there is no “Plan B” for the upcoming Olympics. “There is no decision to reschedule the event, the triathlon and open water swimming will take place on the Seine next year,” he said.
