Pamfilova reported to Putin that if the situation worsens, elections in new regions will be postponed

Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with the head of the Russian Central Election Commission Ella Pamfilova in the Kremlin. At the meeting, Mrs. Pamfilova said that if the situation worsens in the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, elections there may be postponed. This was reported by the press service Kremlin.

“But since the situation is not easy, anything is possible. And if circumstances of unforeseen force arise in some area, the situation can deteriorate sharply, we understand that there is a serious danger to residents there, then we have the right to postpone elections in this or that area,” said Ms. Pamfilova.

Ella Pamfilova also said that this year, according to the expectations of the CEC, about 21.5 million voters from 25 regions of the country will take part in remote electronic voting (DEV). “Another difference is that it will take place simultaneously in five of the 11 time zones, this is also a leap forward. We think this is great progress. On the other hand, we act very carefully, we are not in a hurry. Still, the most important thing for us is safety,” she said. There will be no electronic voting in elections in new regions yet, she specified.

Ella Pamfilova also said that the digital system of the GAS “Vybory” will be ready for the presidential elections in Russia in 2024. She noted that the main advantage of the new system will be complete autonomy from the global Internet.

In June, the CEC approved a request from all the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions to hold elections there on the upcoming Single Voting Day. Elections in all four constituent entities of the Russian Federation will be held within three days, while by decision of the regional election commissions, all additional types of voting can be used.
