Pamfilova announced the strongest attack on the surveillance system in the Tyumen region

On the first day of voting in the Russian presidential election, a major cyber attack was recorded on the video surveillance system at polling stations in the Tyumen region, said Ella Pamfilova, chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC). Ms Pamfilova noted that the attack was carried out “professionally” and suggested that the intelligence services were responsible.

“If you mean cyber attacks, today there was the strongest cyber attack in general, for example, on a video surveillance system in the Tyumen region – external, very professional, this is already the level of special services, these are not anarchist hackers,” said Ella Pamfilova, speaking at the International Conference “Electoral sovereignty and international standards” (quote from RIA Novosti).

The head of the Central Election Commission emphasized that the Russian cybersecurity system is capable of coping with all threats. “We have the strongest specialists, I am sure that we will protect (the system.— “Ъ”),” she added.

Voting in the Russian presidential elections started today, March 15. It will last three days in total – until March 17. This is the first three-day presidential election in the country’s history. The CEC registered four presidential candidates: Nikolai Kharitonov (KPRF), Leonid Slutsky (LDPR), Vladislav Davankov (New People) and Vladimir Putin (self-nominated). More than 94 thousand polling stations have been prepared for the elections. The overall turnout in the elections as of 14:00 Moscow time was 8.95%.
