Pacific Fleet confirms resignation of Commander Avakyants

The commander of the Pacific Fleet (Pacific Fleet), Admiral Sergei Avakyants, is on vacation with subsequent transfer to the reserve. This was reported in the press service of the Pacific Fleet, transmits TASS.

“Admiral Sergey Avakyants is currently on vacation with subsequent transfer to the reserve upon reaching the age limit for service in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (April 6, he turned 65 years old),” the Pacific Fleet reported.

Sergey Avakyants, as specified in the Pacific Fleet, is still on the lists of personnel of the Ministry of Defense and, in parallel, in agreement with the ministry, will head the central structure coordinating the work of centers for military sports training and patriotic education created on behalf of the head of state.

Earlier sources TASS And “RIA News” reported that the Pacific Fleet could be headed by Admiral Viktor Liina, who now holds the post of commander of the Baltic Fleet.

On the resignation of Avakyants today informed Presidential Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Yury Trutnev. At the same time, he specified that Avakyants would head the headquarters that oversees the centers for military sports training and patriotic education. Trutnev recalled that in September 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin gave instructions to create such centers.

The Vice Prime Minister added that 12 pilot military sports training centers will appear in the DPR, Buryatia, Kalmykia, Tatarstan, Chechnya, Khabarovsk Territory, Belgorod, Kemerovo, Pskov, Sverdlovsk, Tyumen regions and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.

Sergey Avakyants has been appointed Commander of the Pacific Fleet since May 2012. Prior to that, in different years he served as First Deputy Commander of the Pacific Fleet, First Deputy Commander of the Novorossiysk Naval Base of the Black Sea Fleet and worked at the headquarters of the Northern Fleet. Avakyants received the rank of Admiral in 2014. He was also awarded the orders “For Naval Merit”, “For Service to the Motherland in the Armed Forces of the USSR” 3rd degree, “For Military Merit”, and the medal of the Order “For Merit to the Fatherland” 2nd degree and etc.
