Ozon removed “Summer in a Pioneer Tie” from sale at Khinshtein’s request

Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications Alexander Khinshtein (United Russia) said that at his request, the Ozon marketplace removed a number of books from sale, including Summer in a Pioneer Tie. According to the deputy, they contain propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations. Mr Khinshtein is one of the authors of the law banning LGBT propaganda.
“One of the largest digital marketplaces, Ozon, has today removed from sale books that promote LGBT people, including the infamous “Summer…”. This happened right after I turned to the company management with a demand to comply with our laws banning LGBT propaganda,” Mr. Khinshtein wrote in his Telegram-channel.
About the sale of these books on Ozon, according to the deputy, he was informed by subscribers. “I again urge you to report such cases to me. I will respond immediately. Only together we can restore order,” he added.
The press service of Ozon told Kommersant that the marketplace always complies with the requirements of the law regarding the sale of prohibited goods. The company will monitor the relevant products and hide them from buyers if there are violations.
“For the market, these are new requirements, so the blocking criteria are now being discussed by the entire industry in close cooperation with government agencies. At this stage, different interpretations and adjustments of the content moderation system are inevitable,” the representatives of the marketplace noted.
December 5 President Vladimir Putin signed a law providing for a ban on the promotion of non-traditional sexual relations and preferences, the promotion of pedophilia, as well as the dissemination of information that could cause minors to desire to change their sex.
To identify books with LGBT themes, online publishing house Ridero launched checking your library with a neural network. Subsequently, these publications intend to withdraw from sale.
Popcorn Books has changed the covers of LGBT novels on their website. Now they are packed in a dark opaque film, on which only the title of the book and the name of the author are written.
November 25, online bookstore “Labyrinth” declared on the temporary suspension of the sale of a number of goods. The store’s website specified that Labyrinth was analyzing the content of the books “for the presence of information prohibited for dissemination.”
