On June 12, in Novy Urengoy, at the site near the Zvezdny Sports Palace, a ceremonial opening of a memorial sign dedicated to the Russian Weightlifting Championship took place. This was reported in the Telegram channel of Zvezdny.
“The head of Novy Urengoy Andrey Voronov and the President of the Russian Weightlifting Federation Maxim Agapitov took part in the opening ceremony. Tomorrow, competitions will begin on the site of the Zvezdny Sports Palace, which will bring together several hundred of the strongest athletes of our country, including athletes from Belarus,” the message says.
The memorial sign is a sculpture in the form of an owl with a barbell.
Recall that more than 250 Russian athletes and athletes will compete for the titles of the strongest in ten weight categories. Such competitions in weightlifting will be held in Yamal for the first time.
