Overhaul and restoration completed in 12 monumental houses in Moscow

Specialists completed the overhaul of 12 buildings that are objects of cultural heritage.

Among them is an apartment house with a hotel Ya.M. Tolstoy (No. 29) and the house of the architect M.G. Piotrovich (No. 31) on Arbat Street, the house of the People’s Commissariat for the Defense and Aviation Industry, architect Yu.F. Diderikhs on Bolshaya Gruzinskaya street (No. 36, building 3).

In Pozharsky Lane, a historical portrait of house No. 9 was restored, which is decorated with friezes with images of griffins and stucco medallions with lion masks. The overhaul of the house built in 1879 on Volkhonka Street (house No. 9, building 1) has been completed.

“For the restoration of multi-apartment buildings, which are objects of cultural heritage and have complex architectural elements, the city has allocated special subsidies for the second year. Work on each building requires an individual approach and careful preparation, because it is necessary to preserve all its features as much as possible,” said Moscow Deputy Mayor Pyotr Biryukov.

During a major overhaul with restoration, facades are put in order, the roof and interior are restored, and engineering communications are changed.

“The work was carried out both outside and inside the buildings. Specialists restored the railings of the stairs and steps in the entrances, recreated the historical fittings, and repaired the walls and ceilings. During the overhaul and restoration of monumental houses, modern technologies are used, materials and equipment of exclusively domestic production are used, ”Pyotr Biryukov emphasized.

For the repair of cultural heritage buildings, an individual project is developed. To identify the volume of losses as accurately as possible, the laser scanning method is used. To do this, specialists create a digital model of the building. Lost fragments of stucco are recreated using 3D modeling.

The restoration of monumental houses is carried out with the use of subsidies. The overhaul co-financing program was adopted, since some buildings, due to the presence of complex architectural decoration, require restoration.

“Due to the subsidy, it is possible to restore a number of architectural elements, including stucco decoration, drawn cornices, bas-reliefs, stained-glass window fillings, artistic fencing of balconies and parapets,” the press service of the Moscow Municipal Economy Complex noted.

Organizations involved in the overhaul of cultural heritage objects have a license from the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
