Over 9,000 candidates nominated for elections to legislative assemblies of regions – Kommersant

9,276 candidates have been nominated for elections to legislative assemblies of Russian regions, with the exception of four new constituent entities. This was announced during the meeting by the chairman of the Central Election Commission Ella Pamfilova.

“9,276 people were nominated for elections to legislative assemblies, 6,897 candidates were nominated from 13 parties. 105 lists from 12 parties were registered, which included 6,049 candidates, 5 lists of candidates were not certified,” said Ms. Pamfilova (quoted by TASS).

In total, more than 75,000 candidates were nominated in the Russian regions for the September elections at all levels of government, of which more than 12,000 were self-nominated. In the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, as well as the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, the deadline for submitting documents is until August 17.

“Today, the stage of registration of candidates throughout the country is being completed. The exception is four new subjects. Let me remind you that they decided to reduce the time for electoral actions, so the deadline for submitting documents there will last until August 17, and the commissions will still have five days to make decisions on registration,” the head of the CEC said.

Elections of governors, local parliaments and by-elections of deputies of the State Duma will be held in Russia on September 8-10 (a single voting day is scheduled for September 10). In particular, for the first time elections to regional legislative assemblies will be held in new regions of the country – in the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, as well as in the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. The heads of these entities will also be elected by voting in parliaments.
