Over 8,000 people evacuated in Kherson region due to Kakhovskaya hydroelectric rupture

Over the past day, 346 people were evacuated from the flooded territories of the Novokakhovsk urban district, as well as the Aleshkinsky and Golopristansky municipal districts of the Kherson region. In total, 8.1 thousand people were evacuated during the rescue operation. This was announced by the acting head of the Kherson region Volodymyr Saldo in his Telegram channel.

According to Mr. Saldo, since the beginning of the rescue operation, 583 children and 290 people with limited mobility have been evacuated from the flooded territories. More than 1.9 thousand people are in temporary accommodation centers. “110 people have been hospitalized in medical facilities. Employees of the Ministry of Health of the Kherson region vaccinated about 2.3 thousand people evacuated from the flooded territories,” the report says.

Vladimir Saldo noted that water had left 12 settlements and more than 9,000 residential buildings. Emergency recovery work is still ongoing in the Aleshkinsky municipal district. Work continues to provide financial support to the victims: 1,635 residents of the flooded territories received a one-time financial assistance in the amount of 10,000 rubles. The total number of accepted applications for financial assistance is 1842.

Kakhovskaya HPP was destroyed on June 6. Russia and Ukraine accuse each other of undermining it. The result of the destruction of the dam was the flooding of the left and right banks of the Dnieper. On the left bank died 35 people. Previously, the authorities of the Kherson region reported on the assessment of damage from the destruction of hydroelectric power plants at 40 billion rubles.
