626,278 state-funded places have been allocated in Russian universities for the 2023/24 academic year, said TASS press service of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. In the 2022/23 academic year, the number of budget places amounted to 588 044.
“In total, 626,278 budget places have been allocated to universities for the 2023/24 academic year, taking into account new regions. This number is determined by the requirements of the state guarantee provided for by the law on education,” the ministry said in a statement.
Formerly Ministry of Education and Science promised maintain the number of budget places after the introduction of benefits for participants in the military operation. The agency noted that “applicants under separate and special quotas do not participate in the general competitive selection.”
Participants of the military operation and their children can act to universities under a separate quota for bachelor’s and specialist’s programs for budgetary funds. The quota must be at least 10% of all places for enrollment. The same benefits are available for children of Heroes of Russia and for persons awarded three Orders of Courage.
