Over 2,000 residents of Sakhalin celebrated the All-Russian Olympic Day

The XXXIV All-Russian Olympic Day was celebrated in the Sakhalin Region. More than 2,000 islanders took part in various events in the region dedicated to the sporting event. The largest event traditionally took place on the territory of the sports and tourist complex “Mountain Air”, the press service of the regional Ministry of Sports reported.

The guests of the holiday were greeted by Deputy Minister of Sports of the Sakhalin Region Stanislav Tyurin, Chairman of the Olympic Council of the island region Vladislav Glukhov and acting. Minister of Ecology of the Sakhalin Region Andrey Samatov.

“Sakhalin is joining the All-Russian Olympic Day for the 13th time. Every year this holiday gathers a large number of sports fans and today is no exception. I thank you for choosing a healthy lifestyle, I wish you all good luck and good mood!” – Stanislav Tyurin, Deputy Minister of Sports of the Sakhalin Region, addressed the participants.

Traditionally, the holiday was opened with the Olympic Mile relay. 19 teams, each consisting of five people, passed the baton throughout the race from the lower to the middle station of the STK “Mountain Air”. Each participant had to overcome 300-350 meters.

The team “Edelweiss” came first to the finish line with a score of 0:05:20.9 seconds. The second place was taken by Odomari (0:05:46.3). The top three were closed by athletes from “Hair back!” (0:05:48.2).

“A cool event, we all love it very much and we attend it every year. Today there are a lot of young guys here, strong athletes, whom we, unfortunately, cannot compete with, but we still continue to participate, ”Elena Zheleznyak, a participant in the relay, shared her emotions.

Before the second part of the event, a warm-up was held for athletes under the guidance of Andrey Miroshnikov, a specialist in physical culture and sports, after which the start was given to the extreme endurance race “Olympic Vertical”. Sakhalin residents were expecting a 300-meter climb to the Armeyka track. Here, 129 islanders decided to test their strength – 86 men and 43 women.

Evgeny Valiev (0:03:43) and Sofia Kuznetsova (0:04:26) became the leaders according to the results of the race. Maxim Kosarev (0:03:54) and Dayana Sukhareva (0:04:39) are in second place. Honorable third places were taken by Ilya Bobrov (0:03:58) and Daria Budnikova (0:05:09).

In addition to the sports section for guests, entertainment areas worked on the middle platform of the complex – board wooden games, a recreation area, and a photo zone. Also, everyone could treat themselves to hot drinks and ice cream.
