Russian forward and captain of the Washington Capitals Alexander Ovechkin set a new NHL record for the most regular seasons with 30 goals scored. He spent the 18th regular season of the league with so many goals.
Ovechkin scored his 30th goal of the 2023-24 season in a match with the Detroit Red Wings. Thus, the hockey player was ahead of Canadian Mike Gartner (17 seasons). Out of 19 NHL seasons played, Ovechkin failed to score 30 goals only in the 2020/21 championship, scoring 24.
Alexander Ovechkin became the seventh NHL player to reach the 30-goal mark at the age of 38. Gordie Howe, Johnny Butsik, Martin St. Louis, Teemu Selanne, Brett Hull and Phil Esposito achieved a similar result. Taking into account the last match against the Detroit Red Wings, Ovechkin brought his total number of league goals to 852.
