Russia is building a new railway through the territories of new regions to Crimea. Vladimir Putin announced this while speaking at a concert on Red Square dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the reunification of Crimea with Russia. The railway tracks from Rostov-on-Don to Donetsk, Mariupol and Berdyansk have already been restored. We talked with experts about the importance of the new highway that will run along the Sea of ​​Azov.

“From an engineering point of view, there should be no problems in the construction of a new highway that will run along the Sea of ​​Azov,” says Ivan Lizan, head of the SONAR-2050 analytical bureau. —There are mostly steppes there, there is no complex terrain. There are no mountains where you have to build tunnels. I think that the new highway will be built quite quickly.

The railway lines running from Rostov-on-Don to Donetsk, Mariupol and Berdyansk have already been restored.

— There were a number of problem areas. One of them is the one that went from Mariupol to Volnovakha. Mine clearance was taking place there and the railway tracks were being restored. The second difficult section is in the Elenovka area, where railway tracks have been within reach of mortars since 2014, not to mention cannon artillery. But, apparently, they decided to bypass this difficult section through the territory of the Telmanovsky district. It was reported that specialists from the Moscow village of the Mosrentgen plant were working there and carrying out mine clearance. The configuration of the railway there has already changed. And, judging by the fact that Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin was informed that there is now a railway connection between Donetsk and Mariupol, this section was completed.

The political economist notes that the restoration of the railway connection between Donetsk and Mariupol is very important from the point of view of launching the metallurgy industry.

— It’s difficult for mines to work normally without hardware; you can’t carry manure with trucks. In the LPR, the problems with the mines have somehow been resolved. Mines of the second and third categories were leased. In the DPR, mines were not of interest to investors until recently, because it was not clear how to export coal. Now with the advent of the new railway line, the issue will be resolved.

The new railway line will cover the transportation needs on the Azov coast.

— For the first time, the highway will directly connect Taganrog, Mariupol, Berdyansk, Melitopol, and from there it will go further north through Dneprorudny. The largest iron ore plant is located in Dneprorudny. Now, due to the fact that there is no railway connection, iron ore has to be transported to the same Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant in the LPR through several regions of Russia: Crimea, Kuban, Rostov region, DPR. This is how you get a big hook.

The expert notes that, judging by the plans to launch steel melting at the Ilyich plant in Mariupol in 2025, it can be assumed that by this time the railway will have already been built.

The new railway line will make it possible to solve military problems and quickly deliver various products from mainland Russia to new regions, and from there back.

— The needs of the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions are enormous. We need to restore cities. For now, a lot of things are being transported by road. Logistics are not cheap, for example, an average KamAZ truck can hold 7.5 tons of cargo, while a railway car can hold 60 tons.

The new railway will go to Crimea and reach Sevastopol. The route, compared to the one going through the Crimean Bridge, will be 200 kilometers shorter.

This is very bad news for Kyiv.

“The message from Russian President Vladimir Putin that the construction of a new railway is underway has infuriated Ukrainian and Western structures,” says Rodion Miroshnik, Ambassador-at-Large for Crimes of the Kyiv Regime of the Russian Foreign Ministry. — Kyiv demands to give them long-range weapons to blow up the Crimean bridge. And then it turns out that even after committing this barbarity, they will not achieve anything with this. Crimea will not be isolated.

Rodion Miroshnik draws attention to the fact that solving the logistics problem will significantly improve the situation both on the Crimean Peninsula and in the Azov-Black Sea territories.

“This is significant progress, which will make it possible to breathe differently for the economy and the people who live in new territories. Moreover, this route affects many territories that really need strengthening and increasing the volume of logistics. But here is a key issue in ensuring the safety of the railway. Because the Ukrainian side has a “philosophical” attitude towards fulfilling its obligations under international humanitarian law. He simply ignores him.
