Hospitals in the city of Orsk in the Orenburg region have temporarily suspended inpatient medical care. If necessary, patients will be redirected to institutions in Novotroitsk and Orenburg. The decision was made due to the fact that the city’s medical facilities are located in a flood zone.

“In Orsk, currently, predominantly emergency and emergency inpatient medical care is provided in hospitals. The bed capacity in these two hospitals, located out of the danger of flooding, is sufficient to provide emergency care, and pediatric and infectious diseases beds are also functioning regularly in the city,”— reported regional Ministry of Health.

Some Orsk clinics are also located in the flood zone, so medical staff in these institutions will provide care at home. Emergency teams to serve patients have been strengthened, the department added. “We have all the necessary supplies of medicines. There are currently no problems with providing Orsk hospitals with personnel and material resources,” the Ministry of Health added.

Starting tomorrow, April 8, in order to prevent respiratory and intestinal infections, evacuated residents of Orsk will be provided with free antiviral drugs, and mass vaccination of the population against hepatitis A will begin on April 9.

On April 5, a dam broke in Orsk. 4 thousand residential buildings, in which about 11 thousand residents live, as well as 11 socially significant objects, fell into the flooding zone with water from the Ural River. According to the latest data, there are 1052 evacuated residents in 13 temporary temporary detention centers. Assistant to the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Alexey Kuznetsov reportedthat due to the threat of flooding, 132 patients were evacuated from medical facilities.
