Orenburg authorities expect flood peak today - Kommersant

The water level in the Urals near Orenburg rose to 1,120 cm at night. As a result, another 361 houses and 900 household plots were flooded in the city. This was announced by the first deputy head of Orenburg, Alexey Kudinov. Peak water in the Urals is expected today, April 12.

“The water level is rising, and now we see a level of 1120 cm. Overnight, in fact, another 900 household plots and 361 houses were flooded,” the deputy head of the city told reporters (quoted from TASS). Due to flooding, one school will work remotely (Lyceum No. 2), the rest – as usual.

As the deputy head of the city reported, citing the forecast of the Hydrometeorological Center, today, April 12, the flood will peak in Orenburg, then the water will remain at the same level for two more days, after which the water level will drop.

The city is planning short-term power outages due to rising water in the Urals. The outages will affect areas limited by Stepan Razin, Uralskaya, Chkalov, and Turkestanskaya streets, the administration reported.

Due to large-scale floods, a state of emergency was introduced in the Orenburg region. More than 10 thousand residential buildings were in the flood zone. 40% of flooded houses cannot be restored. Minister of Construction and Housing and Communal Services Irek Fayzullin said that those who lost their homes due to floods will receive certificates for the purchase of new housing.
