Orban is preparing to block new aid to Kyiv in the absence of a common EU strategy

Hungarian leader Viktor Orban is threatening to block further aid to Ukraine and the process of its accession to the European Union, Politico reports, citing Orban’s letter to the head of the European Council, Charles Michel.
In this letter, as the publication learned, the Prime Minister indicated that no decisions on financial assistance to Ukraine, the start of negotiations on its accession to the EU, or any additional sanctions against the Russian Federation will be made until the leaders of the bloc hold a “strategic discussion.” It is noted that it should take place in Brussels in mid-December.
Orban calls for an analysis of the implementation and effectiveness of the current policy towards Ukraine. In his opinion, the leaders of the European Union should not make important decisions until “there is a consensus on the future strategy regarding Kyiv.”
The EU, as the prime minister emphasized in the message, needs to hold “sincere and open” negotiations on the reality of its strategic goals in Ukraine.
