Orban allowed the revision of relations with Russia

Hungary will have to consider future relations with Russia in the field of foreign policy and economy due to changing geopolitical realities. This statement was made by the Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban.
In his opinion, the restoration of relations between Russia and the EU after the end of hostilities in Ukraine is “far from reality.”
“That is why Hungary needs to think carefully about what kind of relations we can establish and maintain with Russia in the field of foreign policy and economy in the next 10-15 years,” Orban said (quote according to Bloomberg).
The Prime Minister noted that maintaining relations with Moscow is in the interests of Budapest, including because of Hungary’s “energy dependence” on Russia.
After the start of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, the EU imposed large-scale sanctions against the Russian Federation, and the Commonwealth countries began to supply weapons to Kyiv. At the same time, Hungary refused military assistance to Ukraine and repeatedly raised the issue of easing restrictions.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó said that “sanctions have failed” and pointed to economic problems in Europe, while Orban declared about the inefficiency of the restrictions. In addition, at the end of February, the Hungarian Foreign Ministry emphasizedthat Budapest will never support EU sanctions against Russian nuclear energy and energy supplies to the country.
