Operators reported a wave of attacks on satellite broadcasting from a “neighboring state”

Satellite broadcasting from January 2023 began to encounter interference that comes from “the territory of a neighboring state.” About it informed RBC with reference to the press service of Tricolor.

“Since January of this year, all Russian satellite operators have regularly encountered external interference coming from the territory of a neighboring state,” the representative office said.

The company reported successful suppression of interference, but since July 26, a “new powerful wave” of attacks on satellite broadcasting in the Russian Federation has been noted. Company MTS also recorded satellite broadcast interference.

“We cope with them by using combinations of available technical means to reduce the influence of external influence on subscriber reception,” said the operator’s representative. Interference was reported in the Orion group. According to Elena Akimkina, PR director of the company, the exact place of origin of these interferences is unknown.

Attacks on information platforms intensified after the start of a special operation in Ukraine. In June, a massive attack on radio stations was recorded in the Krasnodar Territory. As the operational headquarters of the region reported, residents of Yeysk, Anapa, Tuapse and others heard “fake messages”. It was specified that the purpose of the attacks was to intimidate residents.

On February 22, residents of Belgorod, Ufa, Kazan, Novosibirsk, Penza, Voronezh and other cities heard false air alerts. Announcements sounded only on a few radio frequencies – Humor FM, Relax FM, Comedy, Business FM and Avtoradio. Then Gazprom-Media Radio, which includes some of the hacked radio stations, explained that the hacker attack was implemented through the “satellite operator infrastructure”.
