The children’s segment has bypassed vocational education – adults have become less likely to buy online courses for themselves. Educational platforms for schoolchildren are in the top 3 by the number of mentions on social networks this season, according to a Brand Analytics study. To spur demand for online learning, sites have extended seasonal promotions and introduced new professions, including, for example, a drone school. How much do new specialties cost? And who does the labor market really need? Aelita Kurmukova found out.

Programming, marketing, design are the top 3 requests for online educational platforms. In terms of preferences, little has changed this season, but the training period has been shortened.

Against the backdrop of falling incomes, Russians began to save money, and in order not to lose their audience, online platforms differentiated their portfolios by creating additional express courses instead of long-term programs.

Meanwhile, the audience chooses those professions that allow them to earn money right away, emphasized the director for development of the educational platform Netology “Olga Sokhneva”:

“The demand for shorter intensive courses and those that allow you to work as a freelancer and earn additional income has increased. These are, in particular, a marketplace manager, software tester, graphic designer and communications specialist.

New programming lines are appearing, there are courses on React, Django, 1C development with different specializations. We also see that the market lacks industrial IT specialists. We started going exactly in this direction with the first program on Data Science in medicine.”

The vocational education market is being rebuilt, Kommersant FM’s interlocutors say. And, in addition to IT specialties, other areas have emerged, including due to sanctions. In particular, the courses train furniture designers and teach tailoring from scratch.

The demand for personal growth courses has also returned, noted Vasily Cherny, director of strategic communications at Brand Analytics:

“Self-development programs are popular. If earlier this was all a little bit within the framework of infogypsy and infobusiness, now people expect not only some kind of psychological help, but they also take courses that will allow them to either master a profession or acquire smart and soft skills. We can say that the market itself is changing.

You can remember not only about online courses, but also about the fact that in offline education there is now practically a boom in college training for working professions. Demand has grown there, wages have risen.”

The market really needs blue-collar workers, but if we talk about Moscow, then the choice is obvious. They promise to train you to become a brand manager, marketer or programmer even in four to six months.

The average price of such express courses is 70 thousand rubles, this is already at a discount. But long programs for a period of one year will cost 110-250 thousand rubles.

Online platforms, unlike standard education, are always one step ahead. Following specialties related to artificial intelligence, even drone schools have appeared.

According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, by 2030 the country will need 1 million such operators. Meanwhile, the demand for these professions has continued since the COVID-19 pandemic, shares Sergei Popkov, co-founder and business development director of the Skillbox educational platform:

“We remain true to our specialization, teaching IT professions. So from the point of view of drones, our program matrix is ​​naturally more focused on online courses and training in this area.

This is all that is directly related to the IT part, that is, programming drones and robotics.

We see that the demand for such topics is indeed growing from year to year. First of all, this is due to requests from the agricultural industry, the construction sector, and surveyors.

Often photographers and people involved in professional video production and drone photography also buy such courses from us.”

This season, online platforms are said to have not raised tuition fees yet. At the same time, education at leading universities has already become more expensive by an average of 12%.
