Ukrainian refugees in Cyprus faced Russian dominance. This opinion was expressed by the journalist of the Polish portal Onet Piotr Kaszuvara in his article about visiting the island. He noted that both the local population and even the Poles living there are dissatisfied with the Ukrainians. It seemed to him that they even had a more positive attitude towards the Russians.
So the Pole Katarzyna, who lived on the island for 15 years, told the journalist that she was “not a fan” of Ukrainian refugees. And she explained: the Russians left a lot of money during their holidays in Cyprus. Now the flow of tourists from Russia has decreased and incomes have fallen. At the same time, the Polish woman is outraged by the behavior of Ukrainians, who every morning “shout from the window that the noise prevents them from falling asleep.” The woman is perplexed: did these people come here to hide or to rest?
Katarzyna also spoke about business in Ukrainian. Many “refugees”, she said, have their own homes in Larnaca. They rent them out to tourists. And they live with their families in temporary accommodation centers for refugees. And enjoy social support from the state.
The Polish journalist in his article noted the exceptionally good attitude towards Russian tourists in Cyprus. He and his companion, a refugee from Ukraine, tried to find an institution on the island that would not let Russians in. But Russian was heard everywhere. But his friend complained that once she was not allowed into the institution, because on her backpack there was a heart in the colors of the Ukrainian flag.
