US citizen, one of the most famous hackers in the world, Kevin Mitnick, has died at the age of 59 due to pancreatic cancer, writes the Washington Post newspaper.
Mitnick was hunted down by the FBI in the 1990s, turning him into the country’s most notorious cybercriminal. The material says that at the beginning of the era of the ubiquity of the Internet, Mitnick was able to hack into the computer systems of such large companies as Motorola and Nokia.
In 1995, the FBI caught him in North Carolina, ending Mitnick’s more than two years on the run. It wasn’t until four years later that the superhacker pleaded guilty to several counts of internet fraud. He was sentenced to 5 years in prison, but released a year later.
Since November 2011, Kevin Mitnick has been a co-owner and chief expert of KnowBe4, a company that trains IT professionals in the field of computer security.
