Ebeko volcano awakens on Paramushir island

On the island of Paramushir, which is one of the islands of the northern group of the Great Kuril Islands, the Ebeko volcano has awakened. The ash emission was about 2.5 km. This was reported at the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

“The explosions raised the ash of the Ebeko volcano 2.5 km above sea level,” the report said.

They clarified that the plume of ejected ash stretched for a distance of seven kilometers to the southeast of the volcano.

As a result of the awakening of the volcano, an orange aviation danger code was introduced in the region, as the current situation could pose a threat to low-flying aircraft.
