Latvian Foreign Minister Karins: NATO countries need to introduce compulsory military service

NATO countries that currently do not have compulsory conscription of citizens for military service should take an example from Latvia, which has returned to this practice. This statement was made by Latvian Foreign Minister Krisjanis Karins during an interview with the British television channel Sky News.

“We think that this was a very good idea for us. I think that other NATO countries could also consider this possibility,” said the Latvian diplomat.

According to him, if the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance took such a step, “it would change the situation.”

Karins added that the goal of the country’s authorities is to provide the country with a sufficient number of well-trained and equipped reservists who can strengthen the professional army.
