One of Britain’s longest ancient inscriptions to be put on display for the first time

One of the longest ancient inscriptions ever discovered in Britain will be put on display for the first time. Air Force.

Two sandstones have been discovered at Bainbridge in Wensleydale and are evidence of the construction of a fort by the Roman army on Brough Hill in the 3rd century.

They were found in 1960 but have since been stored in a warehouse as one of them weighs 600 pounds (272 kg) and was supposed to be stored in the basement of the University of Leeds.

The new exposition was installed in the building of the Michael Sadler University.

Dr. Samuel Gartland, lecturer at the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies, said it took a crane to move them to their new location.

“The big stone is indeed a superstar inscription, one of the longest and largest ever found in ancient Britain and is unlikely to ever be surpassed as a Roman Yorkshire world record,” he said.

“In line with our launch during Black History Month, the stones tell of the period when Yorkshire was ruled by Rome’s first African emperors, as well as dynastic skirmishes and assassinations within the imperial family.”

The stones were originally built into the wall of the barracks building, but they were later reused as foundations for a Roman road and have spent most of the last 2,000 years upside down in the field.

When they were discovered by archaeologists, soldiers from the Royal Engineers were brought in to help carry them to the university.

The university said the stones were of academic interest, and a team from the University of Glasgow hoped to scan them with special laser equipment.
