The authorities of the Sakhalin region decided to reduce the cost of celebrating the New Year, Kommersant was told in the government of the region on Monday, October 31. In recent years, the island region has held many different entertainment mass events on the eve of the holidays, and this time, in order to save budget funds and in order to support mobilized citizens, it was decided to abandon a number of previously planned ones.
The saved funds will be used to solve priority tasks, regional officials emphasized. “It is necessary to do everything so that the servicemen heading to the NMD zone are fully equipped, receive the necessary training and do not worry about their loved ones,” the representative of the regional government emphasized.
Similar recommendations have been sent to the municipalities. Some events on New Year’s Eve will also be canceled in the regional center. According to the administration of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, festivities on Lenin Square have been canceled, and there will be no fireworks familiar to the townspeople. However, matinees and master classes will be organized for children and families of mobilized citizens, military personnel, employees of the National Guard, including those who died in the line of duty.
