Olympic champions to become ambassadors of the Artistic Gymnastics Tournament in Chelyabinsk

The Young Gymnast participants will be supported by Ivan Stretovich and David Belyavsky.

The All-Russian tournament will be held from October 26 to 29 at the Chelyabinsk Olympic Reserve Sports School No. 4. It will bring together 200 participants in artistic gymnastics from all over Russia. They will fight for medals, cups and prizes in the programs of 2nd and 3rd junior categories and 3rd adult category. According to Maxim Kleshchevnikov, head of the Department of Sports and Physical Culture of the Chelyabinsk Administration, the competition originated in the 1990s, but reached a new level in 2014.

At a press conference of the Granada Press media holding, Ivan Stretovich, Olympic silver medalist, world and European champion in artistic gymnastics, said that he would hold a master class with the guys as part of the tournament, and would also take part in awarding the winners.

“This is a great honor for me,” said the athlete. – Chelyabinsk has already become my hometown, in August this year I took part in a charity project, conducted a master class at the opening of a new gym. Sport needs not only the support of the authorities, but also of international level athletes.”

The tournament is supported by another titled athlete – David Belyavsky, Olympic champion, world and European champion in artistic gymnastics.

“Unfortunately, I will not be able to come to Chelyabinsk, because I am taking part in the training camp, but I really want to support the guys, because I myself have performed in Chelyabinsk many times. The level of local gymnastics is not bad, recently the guys were in the junior national team, but there is still something to work on,” said David Belyavsky.

Ivan Novikov, chief referee of the competition, said that Chelyabinsk residents have good chances to get into the junior team. We are talking about Mikhail Pavlov, who could not confirm his level due to the coronavirus pandemic, as well as Yana Matkina.
