Two-time Olympic champion Alexander Kozhevnikov called the decision to fine Novosibirsk “Sibir” fair for exceeding the number of foreign players to four instead of the maximum permissible three. The KHL deducted 4 points from the team, giving it technical defeats in the matches. This was reported by the Championship publication.
Kozhevnikov emphasized that in sports it is also important to follow the laws. And checking players for foreign player status is the club’s task.
In this situation, according to the Olympian, it was the management of Siberia who made the mistake. At the same time, Kozhevnikov admits that in the KHL there may be “a little mistake” with the punishment.
As a result, Siberia with 51 points ended up in 10th place in the standings of the Eastern Conference of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).
On January 24, the club filed an appeal against the KHL decision.
Let us recall that earlier “MK in Novosibirsk” wrote that in “Siberia” they made a statement about violating the limit on foreign players.
