Russian athletes should not be condemned for their decision to participate in the Paris Olympics as a neutral, three-time Olympic champion in cross-country skiing Yulia Chepalova said.

“I have a twofold attitude: it’s worth going, but I don’t understand why they put a spoke in the wheel, they confuse sports and politics. Athletes need to be left alone – let them all participate, I can’t imagine international sports without Russia,” Chepalova said.

She noted that athletes have been preparing for years to participate in the Olympics, and they may not get a second chance. She also believes that many in Russia, with rare exceptions, will support them. Chepalova added that this topic has been blown out of proportion, mainly by international organizations. The athletes themselves always treated each other well.

The Olympic Games in Paris will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024. Russians and Belarusians will be able to compete only under a neutral flag.
