Olympic medalist, USSR race walking champion Vladimir Andreev died at the age of 58

The Republican Ministry of Sports expressed condolences to Andreev’s family and friends, calling his passing an irreparable loss.

Andreev was born and raised in the village of Yamanchurino, Yalchik district. During his sports career, he achieved success in domestic and international competitions, winning, in particular, a bronze medal at the 2000 Olympics and a silver medal at the 2002 European Championship. He also became the champion of the USSR, winner and prize-winner of the European and World Cups.

Andreev was awarded the medal “For Services to the Chuvash Republic.” In addition, he was awarded the title “Honored Worker of Physical Culture and Sports of the Chuvash Republic.”
