Officials considered Macron's words about sending troops to Ukraine "not very smart"

American officials believe that French President Emmanuel Macron’s statements about the possible sending of military personnel to Ukraine are “not very smart,” writes Bloomberg.

In February, the French President announced the EU’s agreement to create a “ninth coalition for deep strikes”, including the supply of medium- and long-range missiles to Ukraine. He also said that France will do everything possible to prevent Russia “from winning this war.” Macron noted that the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine was discussed, although consensus on this issue has not yet been reached, “but nothing can be ruled out.”

Unnamed officials note that such statements by Macron are not appropriate from an operational security point of view, especially given that several countries already have their own (military) personnel in Ukraine, the agency reports.

According to Bloomberg, Macron’s statements have made him a major player in the confrontation with Russia, but not all of his allies are convinced that he is the best defender of their interests.
