The verdict on the ex-employees of the Istra temporary detention center, from where Alexander Mavridi escaped last year – the defendant in the high-profile case of the murder of the “sausage king” Vladimir Murugov, was issued by the Krpsnogorsk Court of the Moscow Region. Security officials accused of abuse of power received real terms.
Recall that Mavridi made a daring escape from the temporary detention facility near Moscow on the night of August 6, 2021. Together with him, four cellmates escaped from the dungeons, Moldovan citizens Ivan Turcan, Alexander Butnar, Denis Grozavu and Nikolai Teterea. The fugitives were filmed by a street surveillance camera. In hot pursuit, the detectives managed to establish that the prison staff themselves had missed the inmates. It turned out that the security forces had not closed the food distribution door in the cell. The prisoners contrived to unlock it and break down the door. Sergei Lavrentyev, who was on duty at the temporary detention center that night, confessed that he had dozed off in the rest room and not only did not see, but did not hear anything suspicious. His partner Elizaveta Burdakovskaya also did not notice the “gentlemen of fortune.” The investigation accused both policemen and their chief Andrei Starshinov of abuse of power. The prosecution found that the carelessness of the guards led to the escape: in violation of the law, they placed six people in one cell. Next, Mavridi was added to this six. On an August night it was stuffy in the cell: the prison staff decided to ventilate the room, so they did not close the door.
According to Olga Vradiy, senior assistant to the head of the Main Investigative Committee of the ICR for the Moscow Region, the Krasnogorsk City Court found all three defendants guilty. Lavrentiev and Starshinov were each sentenced to three years and three months in prison. Burdakovskaya – three years. The ex-siloviki will serve their sentence in a general regime colony.
