October 8 – cabbage day
[ad_1]
On October 8, the Orthodox commemorate Sergius of Radonezh. According to the folk calendar, this day is Sergei Kuryatnik or Sergei Kapustnik. Chicken coop – because Sergius was also revered as the keeper of chickens and other poultry, and Kapustnik – because it was customary to cook dishes from this vegetable.
Also this year, October 8th is Parents’ Saturday. On this day, it is customary to commemorate deceased parents and other close relatives.
It is worth remembering that when gathering at the table on this day, you do not need to serve potato dishes – it is believed that those who taste potatoes on this day will fall into a difficult financial situation. Also, in order not to be left without money soon, it is impossible to overeat on Sergiy Kapustnik in principle, and in particular – not to lean on meat. But any cabbage dishes on the table are only welcome. So is chicken broth. Only the bird must be young: according to popular belief, if you taste the broth made from an old chicken on this day, you can get sick.
It is impossible on this day to swear and slander, plot evil or wish someone evil – our ancestors believed that otherwise all bad things would return like a boomerang.
It was also believed that if you wash your hair on October 8, your head will hurt. And if an unmarried girl or woman accidentally breaks a mirror, she may soon get married. For greater fidelity, the fragments of the mirror were not thrown away, but buried under a young tree, and then they sat down to wait for a marriage proposal.
Natural signs on October 8 are as follows:
– if it snowed at night – real winter will come on November 21;
– if the weather is clear that day, it will be the same for another three weeks;
– if the north wind blows – the winter will be cold, if the south – warm, if the west – snowy;
– if you see flocks of bullfinches, it will soon begin to snow.
Try to remember the dreams related to your real life that you saw that night. They can help solve some of your problems or warn you about them. If the dream was more like a fairy tale or fantasy, you can forget it with a light heart.
