October 19 – a piece of bread will add health

October 19 in the folk calendar is Fomin’s Day. In Russia, the Apostle Thomas was revered for his thrift and thriftiness, so on this day the zealous owners inspected and counted the goods in their household and, based on the results, made plans for the future. It was believed that everything planned on Fomin’s day with a high degree of probability could be realized.

There was a belief among the people that breakfast on this day should be started with a piece of bread. They believed that this would bring prosperity to the house, and the winter would pass in satiety. In addition, the sick were fed with bread crust – it was believed that this would help them get back on their feet as soon as possible.

Even on Fomin’s Day, parents began to involve their children in some kind of work or craft. So, girls were taught to cook, sew, spin, and boys were taught to do men’s housework.

On October 19, it was customary to behave modestly and economically in order to avoid financial problems in the future. Failure in money matters also threatened those who on that day decided to give free rein to their laziness and take a break from work.

Boasting on Fomin’s Day was also fraught with failure. It was believed that those who flaunt their wealth could be jinxed, and a girl, if she starts boasting about her fiancé or admirer, will soon lose him.

Natural signs on October 19 are as follows:

– if the first snow fell – there are still 40 days until this winter;

– if the snow is dry – the summer will be warm;

– if the day is calm – it will soon get colder;

– if the sunset is red – to the wind and bad weather;

– if crows gather in flocks – expect bad weather.

A dream that occurred on the night of October 19 may carry a secret meaning that you can try to unravel in the morning. In addition, it is believed that dreams on this night are light, joyful and easy to remember.
