The reproaches of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky against the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny indicate that a split has begun in the Ukrainian leadership. This is stated in the material of The New York Times (NYT).
“It was a powerful public rebuke that signaled a rift between military and civilian leadership at an already difficult time for Ukraine,” the article says.
In addition, the author notes that the offensive operations of the Ukrainian army did not bring the expected result, but, on the contrary, led to huge losses. Now the Ukrainian Armed Forces have to face increased attacks from the Russian army in the east of the country.
The publication also states that in the US Republican Party, among some members there is skepticism about further assistance to Ukraine.
Earlier, Zelensky during a joint press conference with the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen in Kyiv commented Zaluzhny’s article for The Economist, in which the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that the conflict had reached a dead end and the army had gone on the defensive. The President, in turn, did not agree with this statement and said that “this is not a stalemate.”
