The Gaza-based Islamic Jihad movement (an organization designated as terrorist and banned in Russia) said it would release foreign hostages if it reaches an agreement with Israel on a temporary truce in the Gaza Strip. This was reported by Al Arabiya TV channel.
“We will release foreign civilian hostages if a temporary truce is reached,” the movement said (quote according to TASS).
“Islamic Jihad” joined to the military operation “Al-Aqsa Flood”, announced by the Hamas group on the morning of October 7. Then the militants attacked the southern regions of Israel, and some people were taken hostage. In response, the army of the Jewish state announced the start of Operation Iron Swords.
On October 27, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution put forward by Arab countries that calls for an immediate truce in the conflict zone between Israel and Palestine. According to Israel Defense Forces spokesman Daniel Hagari, there are at least 242 hostages in the Gaza Strip who were taken from Israel.
Hamas November 3 stated about his “readiness to compromise” on the people he holds, “both civilian and military,” subject to the release of Palestinians held in Israeli prisons. The Hamas spokesman called on Israel to stop its aggression against the Gaza Strip and stressed that the militants will continue their “struggle against occupation.” He clarified that discussions on the return of hostages and prisoners will be possible after an Israeli ceasefire.
