The New York Times published interviews with several unnamed officials who shed light on the transfer of cluster munitions to Ukraine, which could be officially announced today. The day before, both the White House and the Pentagon stated that this issue is being considered so far.
As noted in the publication, US officials expect this to be a “temporary measure.”
Officials explained that the United States now lacks conventional artillery shells to supply Kyiv. Therefore, cluster munitions will be temporarily transferred to Ukraine until the production of conventional shells is increased in the United States.
Officials expect that the increase in military production will be implemented by the spring of 2024.
