NYT: German conspirators plotted to assassinate Chancellor Scholz during coup

The conspirators, detained in Germany in the case of preparations for a coup d’état, planned the assassination of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, writes The New York Times, citing sources close to the investigation.

“During the searches, more than a hundred non-disclosure agreements were found, <...> in which the signatories swore to keep the group’s plans secret [заговорщиков]including the attack on the German parliament and the arrest of its members, as well as the assassination of the chancellor, ”the report said.

In the event that this information is disclosed and the silence about the plans of the conspirators is broken, the signatories allegedly face death – it was under this condition that non-disclosure agreements were concluded, the interlocutors of the newspaper emphasized.

The publication also clarifies that the alleged head of the Reichsburger terrorist network, Prince Heinrich XIII Reiss, who planned to lead Germany in the event of a successful coup, met at least once with Russian diplomats at the Consulate General in Germany.

According to the publication, as a result of searches, the police found about 40 firearms and more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition that were intended for other types of weapons, which indicates the presence of caches of ammunition that have yet to be found.

December 7 in the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Germany reported about the detention of 25 people, including Russian citizens, who were preparing for a coup. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the suspects are members and supporters of a terrorist organization that was created in 2021. Their goal was to “overthrow the existing political system in Germany,” the department said.

The Prosecutor General’s Office noted that one of the suspects tried to establish contact with representatives of the Russian Federation in Germany. It is specified that the Russian woman is suspected of helping members of a terrorist group to contact representatives of the Russian Federation. At the same time, the investigation has no evidence that the Russian side supported the conspirators.
