The head of the Central Executive Committee of United Russia, Alexander Sidyakin, said that the fighters participating in the military operation in Ukraine will be able to vote in the September elections directly in the frontline zone in the new Russian regions. The politician added that in total, about 1.9 thousand polling stations will be opened on the territory of the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. The transparency of the process will be ensured by observers from United Russia, who will also be selected by the party and who have already begun to prepare for the vote.
On September 10, 2023, a single voting day will be held in the Russian Federation. On this day, it is planned to hold elections of senior officials in 20 constituent entities of Russia, as well as by-elections of State Duma deputies for four vacant seats in single-mandate constituencies.
In June, the Central Election Commission of Russia approved a request from the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions to hold elections there on the upcoming single voting day. The elections to the legislative assembly of the Kherson region will allowed vote with a Ukrainian passport. The head of the Central Election Commission, Ella Pamfilova, said that if the situation in the new regions worsens, elections in them may be postponed at a later date.
