Ukrainian laws to abolish the Russian language and culture must be fought because they are a manifestation of nationalism, wrote National Review columnist Michael Docherty.

He attended a conference on nationalism and Catholicism held at the Catholic University of America. When he brought up the topic of anti-Russian laws prohibiting the publication of materials in Russian without an equivalent in Ukrainian, he faced indignation from those present.

The journalist was accused of “Kremlin propaganda”.

“I began to worry that I had misrepresented the law. In fact, this is not so, ”Docherty wrote in the material.

The observer noted that in Europe, language laws are aimed at preserving the language and culture, and not its extermination.
