The Ministry of Culture of the Novosibirsk Region will check the play “The Princess and the Ogre” by the First Theater for the presence of LGBT propaganda. The check is due to the fact that a man played the female role in the play.
The director of the play, Polina Kardymon, told Kommersant about the upcoming inspection. “The reason for checking is a man in a skirt. We will not change anything in the production,” she said. Ms. Kardymon said that she did not know who sent the application to the Ministry of Culture. Viewing performance by representatives of the ministry, according to her, is scheduled for November 20.
The performance based on the fairy tale by Heinrich Sapgir is the premiere of the First Theater. It features four male actors. “The first two screenings of The Princess and the Ogre took place today. Thanks to all the participants and directors, as well as dear viewers, big and small, for your activity and energy in the hall, ”the message on the page of the First Theater reads. “In contact with” dated 29 October.
The theatre’s website contains a commentary by Vice-Rector of the Novosibirsk State Theater Institute Yana Glembotskaya. She noted “the good text of Yegor Zaitsev, rewritten and attributed to the well-known fairy tale of Heinrich Sapgir and not raising any questions, on the contrary, organically mixed with the original source of high-quality Sapgir absurdity.”
The Ministry of Culture and the First Theater promised to comment on the situation later. The law on the ban on LGBT propaganda was adopted by the State Duma of the Russian Federation in the first reading on October 27.
