Novosibirsk authorities decided to increase stocks of antibiotics in the region amid rising demand

A sharp increase in demand for antibiotics in the Novosibirsk region became the subject of discussion at an operational meeting with Governor Andrei Travnikov. The reason for the growth was the spread of influenza and SARS.
As Deputy Minister of Industry, Trade and Enterprise Development Maxim Ostanin said during the meeting, pharmacies in the region currently have 86,000 packs of antibiotics at their disposal. This is 5% less than a week earlier. According to Mr. Ostanin, there are no “corresponding drugs” in 3% of points of sale (there are 10.2 thousand in total in the region).
“In the next week, until Thursday, delivery of 102,000 packages is expected. At the same time, the situation requires additional attention – over the past two weeks, an increase in demand for children’s medicines has been recorded, ”the official said. In turn, the Minister of Health of the Novosibirsk Region, Konstantin Khalzov, noted that “antibacterial therapy” medical organizations have stocks for an average of three months.
Following the meeting, Andrey Travnikov addressed Novosibirsk residents in his Telegram channel with the words that, despite the existing three-month supply of antibiotics, before the New Year it will be increased. At the same time, he asked the residents of the region not to succumb to the hype.
According to the first vice-mayor of Novosibirsk Boris Bureev, 239 groups of kindergartens and 135 school classes were closed in the city due to the flu and SARS among pupils.
