Novgorod orienteers win Russian championship in Sochi

Novgorodians won the Russian championship in orienteering, the press service of the Ministry of Sports of the region said.
According to the department, the competition was held in Sochi. The team of the Novgorod region won gold in the two-stage relay. Maria Suvorova and Ekaterina Agafonova were ahead of their rivals from St. Petersburg and the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
“In the mixed four-stage relay, Dmitry Pyhunov, Kirill Kapparov, Maria Suvorova and Ekaterina Agafonova took second place, losing in a bitter struggle to the team of St. Petersburg and leaving the team of Moscow in third”the message says.
The Ministry of Sports of the region also reported that Kirill Kapparov from Novgorod became the third in the cross-sprint discipline overall start.
Novgorodians joined the competition in the group up to seventeen years. Yuri Bessonov and Igor Emelyanov took sixth place.
