November 11 – it is not recommended to offend sheep

November 11 in the folk calendar – Avramy Ovchar and Anastasia Ovechnitsa. On this day, shepherds and shepherds were especially honored – they baked pies for them, brought gifts and showed care in every possible way. Yes, and sheep and rams were given increased attention – they cleaned and warmed the sheepfolds, and the animals were given various delicacies – in order to live in warmth and prosperity in the future.

On this day, it was customary to spin yarn from sheep’s wool and knit warm clothes from it. Girls gave knitted mittens or socks to their betrothed. They believed that after such a gift, relations would become even warmer and more sincere.

Relatives and good friends gathered at the table – it was believed that this would help strengthen relations. The traditional dish on the table was sheep or goat cheese. They also prepared pies – both meat and sweet stuffing. The women watched which of the relatives and guests would take the pie first: if the head of the family – it will be fine in the house all year, if the mother-in-law – you need to give her something, if the father-in-law – it means he will protect the daughter-in-law, if the brother – it means he is jealous of your good life, if a sister, there will be profit. If the male guest is the first to get to the pies, the year will pass in abundance, the woman will not do without quarrels and adultery. If the child was the first to grab the pie from the table, you can expect an addition to the family.

Girls were not allowed to set the table – otherwise it would not be possible to marry her soon.

According to popular beliefs, coral beads could bring good luck on this day. To put them on for a woman – for a family harmony, for a girl – for a promising acquaintance. And if you hang the beads in a prominent place in the house, they will protect you from evil spirits.

On this day, they tried not to leave children unattended so that trouble would not happen. And they kept away from strangers and did not let them into the house – so that those children would not be jinxed and would not start a quarrel.

Folk signs on November 11 are as follows:

– if the clouds hang low, and the crows croak especially hard, frost will strike;

– if pigeons coo – to warming;

– if it started to rain, it will get colder soon;

– if the sun peeks out from behind the clouds – it will be warm for several days;

– if there are a lot of leaves on the trees – by a long winter;

– if by this day the earth is covered with snow – to a good harvest;

– if it is cloudy in the morning – the weather will remain the same until the end of November.

Dreams that were dreamed on the night of November 11, unlike those that were dreamed the day before, come true only if they were light and pleasant. But nightmares are better to throw out of your head as soon as possible.
